The purpose and objective of the lay organization is to organize and train the laity of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. The goal is so that each lay person would utilize, to the maximum, their abilities and skills granted by God. Improving and extending God’s kingdom by creating happiness, peace, and harmony among members.
It is our mission to instill in the membership of the church a love and appreciation for the history, traditions, principles and development of African Methodism by encouraging, motivating and educating all lay persons.
The lay organization and the A.M.E. Church lost a legacy in the 12th District, Mr. Rucker E. Clayton died on August 7, 2004. He was a big supporter of the Lay organization and the A.M.E. Church. He served as Episcopal District Lay president from 1963-1987. Mr. Clayton and his wife, Carrie, helped start the Economic Development Fund in the 12th District under Bishop H. H, Brookins.
